Floral Portrait #8

Dahlias were a favourite of my mother, she grew them—along with my grandmother’s roses—in every possible corner of the garden, when I was young. She especially loved the pom-pom varieties, and chose every colour possible. The one thing I didn’t love, when she cut some to bring in to put in vases, were the earwigs. The two always seemed to go hand in hand in my memory.
